Why I Love Snake Plants

Aside from the succulent, the snake plant (aka mother-in-law's tongue) is my absolute favorite plant for the home. Not only is it a beautiful sculptural addition to any empty corner or side table, it's also incredibly easy to take care of- tolerant of low light levels and irregular watering. As a matter of fact, during winter it only needs to be watered every couple of months! This is definitely the selling point for me, as I have notoriously dreadful luck with keeping plants alive. I also read that NASA found the snake plant to be one of the best plants for improving indoor air quality... I can only imagine how snazzy it would make a space shuttle interior look ;)

Inside Garden Diary

I've fallen in love with the blog Belle Fleur De Lis. It's follows a 23 year old Belgian girl's life- capturing her love of photography, plants, and all the small pleasure that bring joy to her life. The plants she's gown in her little patio garden are so beautiful. Ugh, if only I didn't have such a brown thumb I would love to do something like this myself! She's opening a shop in January 2011- selling her pretty plant holders.

Tour : Pigeon Toe Ceramics

Pigeon Toe Ceramics prides itself on making lovingly hand-crafted relics that are something to cherish and keep in your family for generations. Living in a world of mass-produced products, it's hard to distinguish whats is true quality & craftsmanship... but this shop prides itself on having the very best vendors and products in their store. It's refreshing seeing shops out there striving to create beautiful pieces that have actual sentimental value. Their carefully hand-picked items are clearly chosen with the goal to showcase pieces that will become heirlooms to be passed on and enjoyed for generations...

DIY: Succulent Tea Cups

It's FRIDAY! Plans for the weekend: pick up my Oraganic Veggie Box, hit up the FYF Fest, help the BF finish up putting together his new place with some possible thrifting, a BBQ with friends on Labor Day... and suprisingly- I think I may have some down time in between! Nice. That means I have time for this- a little project I found on the blog Epherriall Designs... it's this great little DIY Succulent Teacup window garden. This will be perfect for my office- which at the moment has absolutely no plants in it, one large concrete wall, and a view of a Circle K across the street. What can I say? It's pretty amazing. But, I think it could use a little decor- and this idea sure will freshen up the space. The great thing is, it's very inexpensive and easy to do. Succulents are about a $1.00 each at your local garden store (or you can even try the 99¢ Store, they have them there on occassion) and cool vintage tea cups are super easy to find at Thrift Stores. So here it is guys, the simple succulent tea cup garden... Have a great weekend!
