Orla Kiely: 60's Style Typing Pool

As inspired as I am by this 60's office fashion shoot by designer Orla Kiely, I'm totally ready to ditch my pencil skirt for tonight's leather jacket... yay for Friday!

Laser Cut Lamps

Ania Pauser was recently selected as the "Young designer of the year" by Plaza Magazine for her gorgeous laser cut pendant lamps made out of aero plywood and paper. The jury's comment: "Ania Pausers lamp in laser-cut wood is like something straight out of Arabian Nights - fabulous!"... I couldn't agree more. They look like they came straight out of a Moroccan dream!

Re-Branding The US Postal Service

I just love to look at re-branding projects. We did this a lot when I was in design school- choosing a pre-existing brand to spruce up with a new logo, style guide and application process. It's fascinating to see how much a business can take on an entirely different persona simply by changing the visual branding! An excellent example of this comes from a portfolio found on Behance. It's the work of designer Matt Chase of DC who decided to re-brand the USPS! The colors and graphics give the company an easy-going, friendly and hip aesthetic- without taking away from the fact that this company has been established for over 200 years!! Awesome job...

Charlotte Lancelot Stitched Funiture

I recently came across Charlotte Lancelot's gorgeous stitched furnishings on Bliss. I was intrigued, so I decided to check out her website. Sure enough, I discovered an array of unique forms of product design. Some of my personal faves are the Felt Memo Board, Orchid Tableware and Forget-Me-Knot Hooks. Thought I would share those with you today :)

Miga de Pan Embroidery

The only thing harder than coming home from a wonderful vacation, is being too busy to share it with everyone! I'll get to my photos eventually, but in the meantime, I've found some lovely images from Buenos Aires artist Miga de Pan that I'm thrilled to share with you today! There is so much to be seen on her inspiring blog where she showcases a collection ranging from wall art to pieces of furniture - ALL hand embroidered. Incredible, right?

Worldy Interiors by Justina Blakeney

This is Justina Blakeney. I've had a wild design-crush on her for ages now. I should warn you, after seeing her work, you may too. Don't be suprised if you get the strong urge to travel the world, even if it's just to pick out cool objects your home. You might even find yourself sticking plants in every vacant crevice of your home. That's because you'll notice that in just about every photograph on her site, theres a plant that brings beautiful life to every room. This makes me wish I wasn't cursed with a black thumb (I'm pratically incapable of keeping any plant alive...) There's just so much to be inspired by on her site! So, I think it's about time I introduced you to Justina's work...

"[Her] space is all about creative reuse, personalization, vivid colors, bold patterns, worldly and thrifted finds, and lots and lots of plants... [Her] style is tropical and bohemian, very vintage and very cozy. [It's] about bringing the eclecticism of nature and the wild--indoors."

Hipster Branding

Ahh yes, the hipster... I believe we're all familiar with the term by now. Loosely defined as "aficionados of the growing scene, avoiding at all costs mainstream trends in fear of losing coolness." Many designers have found themselves drawn to this sub-culture, thus the hipster aesthetic is reflected in much of our visual world today. Designer Dave Spengeler is "holding up a mirror to the artsy community" by using simple design techniques that we've seen used again and again... and again. These logos, although quite nice, are borderline cliché. However, I'll admit that seeing these brands turned "hipster" tempts me to take a second look... And yes, I would totally check out a Kentucky Fried Chicken with a logo like that! OH, the power of design!

Lauren Moffatt Spring 2012

Lace, jean, color blocking and boho-vintage prints: these are some of the big trends I'm seeing in fashion this Spring- ALL of which you can find in Lauren Maffots's 2012 Collection. I think my favorite piece is the painted skirt right below. Just love those bold colors with the delicate lace top...

Jen Awad : White Light, White Heat Collection

I am so thrilled about todays post here on MDP! I get to share with you Miss Jen Awad's fashion for the second time here on my blog (previous entry found HERE) who I am both a friend and huge fan of. Her latest collection of work, just released a few days ago, is called White Light, White Heat. I will warn you, these pieces are pretty easy to fall in love with... so you may want to lock your wallets up asap! I would also like to give credit to Lasonic Sivongxay for the incredibly beautiful photography, capturing the essence of the collection with the ever-so dreamy lighting... and the Dylan Keith Salon (a wonderful salon I'm a proud customer of) for the hair and make-up. Just lovely.
