MDP Music : Gotye

I rarely write about music here on MDP, but every so often I hear a song that I find so inspiring I feel the need to share it... with everyone! I've kind of been obsessing over it. My friends are most likely sick of it by now as it's been on repeat in my apartment for the past few weeks. It's called "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye featuring Kimbra. I just hope this song doesn't dampen your spirits today because the lyrics are a bit heavy. But it's so so beautiful! Not to mention- the video is a true work of art! Enjoy :)

DIY Bottle Centerpieces

Funny how something as simple as a bottle can inspire a post here on MDP. I'm especially fond of the yarn-wrapped beer bottles... so cute! I was thinking that a little orange and gray would look wonderful for Halloween! The link to that particular DIY will only take you to the image source- but I'm sure all you need is a glue gun, bottle and yarn. Looks easy enough ;)

Old World Primitive Halloween

Crafty - folksy - vintage - whatever you want to call it - this is the way I like to do Halloween! Mixed media artist Stephanie Baker of Old World Primitives has a charming collection inspired by her childhood where she grew up in an 18th Century farmhouse. Her work is greatly influenced by the primitive arts and crafts style from the period. I'm especially fond of this aesthetic when paired with the holidays. Something about it brings out the little-girl spirit in me. I'm so ready to go trick-or-treating now!

In the Mood for Polyvore

I shall call my very first Polyvore collection: "I have an irrational fear of wasting a good outfit on an insignificant day." I'm kind of obsessed with this site right now. It allows you to interact with a style board-creation interface by choosing pieces from their their HUGE collection of fashion and accessories. AND they even have fun backgrounds and fonts. Easy!

Americana + Autumn = Preppy

Plaid, wool, collars and jeans- these are a few of my favorite things! Which explains why I'm so loving this Autumn collection by New England based designer, Kiel James Patrick. His goal is to re-introduce us all to that classic-styled preppy clothing from an older era that has been long forgotten. Check out the BLOG for more Autumn-style inspiration!

Trinkets & Flats

Anthropologie always has the most lovely pieces for Fall. Look at these charming italian suede flats, topped off with metallic brooch keepsakes. Love them... but I'm also tempted to try this myself with some of the brooch-pins or buttons I have laying around. Wouldn't this be a nifty DIY gift idea?

So excited about tonight! We're going to my favorite German pub, Red Lion Tavern, to celebrate my birthday! And how perfect is it that we'll get to celebrate during Oktoberfest? Looking forward to putting on Lederhosen and getting my very own stein to mark the occassion! Here's to turning 25!

Holy Guacamole... Fries

It's not often I have a vocal reaction toward something I see on the internet. This recipe, however, not only made me shriek "whhhhaaa?!," it managed to place a huge grin across my face. Baked Avocado Fries. Almost sounds too good to be true, right? It's everything I could ever ask for in a recipe (not to mention this is something I can ACTUALLY make with the primitive baking skills I have...) If you can't already tell, I'm pretty flippin' excited to try this out... VIA

Ingredients:

1/4 cup flour
1 tsp kosher salt
2 large eggs, beaten
1 1/4 cups panko (Japanese bread crumbs)
2 firm-ripe medium avocados, pitted, peeled, and sliced into 1/2-in. wedges

Directions:

• Slice Avacodo.

• Mix the flour, egg, and panko.

• Place the fries on a drying rack and then on a cookie sheet.

• Spray with olive oil or non-stick spray.

• Bake 20 minutes at 450 degrees.

• Sprinkle with parmesan.
