DIY Doily Lamp

It's so Grandma- but so cute (and easy). This DIY Doily-Lace Lamp was inspired by the beautiful pendant lamp found at reMade USA... except this one costs you the price of a balloon, wallpaper glue & doilies... Instructions found at DOS FAMILY.

It would be awesome to create a lamp shade also. I really love the shadows it makes!

I tried this as well...twice and both times when I popped the balloon the whole thing collapsed. Used wallpaper glue as suggested...was there a specific one I should have used? Really want to make this and have it turn out!

This might be an obvious question.. but how do you get the light down inside once you get it all put together? silver.rayne@yahoo.com I would love to make this for my mom!

Thanks so much for posting this! I'm going to make them, and use them at my wedding! I am so excited to see the final product! Is there something I should put on the doilys or the balloon to get them to separate better?

I LOVE THIS! I did it with my mother inlaw and it was alot of fun! just an FYI to anyone trying it for the first time, Dont put too much glue of it just slides off before it drys. And also humidity suck with this project! Summer storm didnt help :)

I remember making easter eggs out of string like this when I was a kid. I think I want to try this again with doily's. Thanks for the inspiration!!

I finally got around to making this, and I am IN LOVE with the way it turned out! I used lace doilies I found at Joanne's Fabric, wallpaper paste from the local department store, punching balloons from the local party store, and a "make your own lamp" kit from the local department store as well as the bulb inside. It was so much easier than I was expecting it to be, just took a few days (I let it dry for 3 days because I didn't want to risk disaster). I've hung it above my bed in my room and have already received so many compliments on it. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Hi there! I was wondering if anyone attempted this and would be able to give me any tips on how to do this successfully? My girlfriend and I tried this weekend and it was a disaster. Do they need to be super thin doilys? I used wallpaper paste and it was a challenge to get them to stick to each other and the balloon. Also...how do you get the doilys to stay on the bottom while its wet and hanging? I am thinking a tad thicker doily is just too heavy to use for this. I was SO excited to try this...and it ended with us pulling them off and washing them to give it a try another time. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Thanks!

I also tried making this with wall paper glue and the structure is collapsing as the balloon deflates! So sad! It is beautiful on the balloon... Is there something you do to prep the balloon so the glue doesn't adhere so much to it?
