DIY Doily Lamp

It's so Grandma- but so cute (and easy). This DIY Doily-Lace Lamp was inspired by the beautiful pendant lamp found at reMade USA... except this one costs you the price of a balloon, wallpaper glue & doilies... Instructions found at DOS FAMILY.

is this meant to be done with fabric or paper doillies?

You can get the light from Ikea or another store that sells paper lanters. You can purchase doilies second hand for cheap or garage sell them. You can purchase the more circular shaped balloons from most party supply stores and the punch balloons from a toy store, perhaps? What a fun project, thanks for posting!

I just made this with my grandmother's old doilies (fabric) and unfortunately it did not turn out well, before popping the balloon I just knew it wouldn't keep its form. I have been making chandeliers recently with this same concept but with yarn that have worked out beautifully, i'd definitely recommend! Oh and the trick to making sure the doilies don't stick to the balloon is covering the entire balloon in petroleum jelly. My problem was the doilies weren't hard enough, so they started to shrivel in. I had to blow up a new balloon inside to keep the shape. How did you get the form to stay??? Oh and I should mention I used a layer of fabric mod podge, a little regular mod podge and an elmers glue+water+cornstarch combo. Then, another layer of glaze mod podge. Can't believe this didn't work out like i'd hoped:/

i tried, and it didn't work. i wasted about 50 dollars on al the supplies and was only let down at the end when i pooped the balloon the next day and the doilys all stuck to the balloon and the lantern itself caved in. word of warning, don't try this at home, kids

I haven't tried it personally, but another site suggested coating the balloon in vaseline before applying the doilies. Also I think it said to use watered down school glue and/or corn starch, then sprayed with a clear coat once dry

Oh! and you can even tea dye the doilies first if you want more of an antique feel

We did something like this in grade school years ago. It had to have been elmers glue. We wraped a blownup baloon with string. Then when it dried we popped the baloon inside it. The doilies are neet.
