Show Some Love : Russian Nesting Dolls
Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 3:10PM I've decided to make Wednesdays our official "Show Some Love" day. Many things that bring joy to my life- although a little random- may bring you as much happiness as they bring me.
This week I'm featuring Russian Nesting Dolls, also known as Matryoshka Dolls. The first dolls were designed by Sergey Malyutin in Russia, inspired by a set of carved Japanese wooden dolls representing Shichi-fuku-jin (the Seven Gods of Fortune.) In 1900, the dolls were entered into the World Exhibition in Paris, and earned a bronze medal. They've become a very popular decorative item ever since and have found themselves in homes all around the world.
